It's the technique of choice when the priority is a gentle grow-out. Placement follows how your hair actually moves and where you part it, which is why balayage tends to look best when it's worn a little undone.
Balayage is not the answer to everything. Very fine hair, dense gray, or a request for full brightness at the root are all better served by foils — sometimes both techniques in one appointment.

Questions clients ask
Balayage or highlights — which should I get?
Highlights give you brightness closer to the root and more overall coverage; balayage gives you a softer grow-out and a more natural pattern. If you want brightness at the scalp, choose highlights. If you want to stretch appointments, choose balayage.
How often do I need balayage?
Most clients come every three to four months. Because there's no hard regrowth line, going longer looks fine — the main reason to come sooner is tone.
Will balayage work on short hair?
It can, but the shorter the hair the less room there is to blend. On short cuts, Niki often uses a foil-and-paint combination so the dimension still reads.
Is balayage less damaging than foils?
Not automatically — the lightener is the same. What matters is how much of the hair is lightened, how many times, and how it's supported. Balayage often ends up gentler simply because it's done less frequently.
Can balayage fix brassy hair?
Brassiness is usually corrected with toning rather than more lightening. If your hair is already light enough, a gloss appointment may be all you need.
